This is the first comprehensive bibliography of gems and precious stones ever published, containing over 7,500 entries--predominantly books, but also periodical articles of significant material of historical value, from 1500 up to 1985, with some books published after that date. All important works are described, collated, and assessed in terms of content, accuracy, and importance, with remarks added on bindings and physical features that will enable librarians, researchers, booksellers, and collectors to verify editions and states as well as completeness of copies. Illustrations; subject index. The bibliography is based mostly on the Sinkankas Library, generally agreed to be the largest and most complete collection of its kind, now in the Gemological Institute of America, Santa Monica, CA.

Review
Sinkankas is the prime authority on gemology...A noble work that will stand unchallenged for decades... (Reference & Research Book News)
John is the 'Michener' of gemology and this work is his Centennial..the compilation of the Bibliography is the fruition of a lifetime's work: researched from scratch!...To say that the Sinkankas Bibliography is the best gemological bibliography is to condemn it with faint praise. The book is astounding! (Geoliterary Bulletin)
..this will remain for many years he place to find out anything one would want to know about who wrote what about gems, who was he in the first place, and what did John think about what he wrote. Libraries, bibliophiles, and gem dealers surely should have this available... (H. Stanton Hill, Emeritus Professor Of Geology, Claremont C)
It is doubtful that anyone else could have produced such a thorough and informative survey of the gemological literature...the most important book that a gemologist could have. (Lapidary Journal)
A superb work with quite a reasonable price for the amount of information contained and a credit to our science. (M.O'd., J. Gemm.)
This is destined to become a classic, since the name Sinkankas is synonymous with gemology...monumental...This is no ordinary bibliography...There is no other comparable book, making this a mandatory purchase... (Reference Books Bulletin)
...a vast amount of information on gem minerals and gem deposits can be accessed...for the bibliophile as well as the scholar...will be a strong candidate for the Geoscience Information Society's annual Best Reference Work Award. Geologists and mineralogists as well as gemologists, historians of science, and bibliophiles will find this a useful reference because of its wide intellectual, geographic, and temporal scope. (Economic Geology)
...a magnificent contribution to the gemological literature...there's nothing like it... (Lillian Cole, Twelfth Street Booksellers, Santa Monica)
This may well be the publishing event of the decade (if not the century) in the gemstone field...Sinkankas, a stickler for accuracy and completeness, thoroughly researched the available literature to provide background for his own writings...The resulting annotated bibliography is unique in its field, and its usefulness and importance cannot be overstated. The work has been published in two massive but handsome volumes. (Rocks And Minerals)
...A noble work that will stand unchallenged for decades... (Scitech Book News)
An exciting bibliography on gemology...The commentary reveals the author's knowledge about and enthusiasm for the material. Highly recommended for collections with even a vague need for a bibliography on gemology. (Choice)
a must for any extensive gemology library. If you must, float a loan on your Rolex! (Jewelers Book Club)
very important...bibliographical reference work...a major reference work that will be very useful for the general antiquarians. (Abba Newsletter)
The appearance in print of Gemology, An Annotated Bibliography is one of the very important events in the history of gemological publishing. (Gems & Gemology)

The Gemology Bible
By Rodrigo Caldas Goncalves
There are not so much books about gemology, what makes the study of the gems a very difficult thing. The books above complete the space at literature and give both a reference and a study help. We could, almost, call them an encyclopedia about gems. In fact, if you bought these books you will not need to buy another title.
